Our Easter Weekend

Even though it was a bit chilly this year, we had a nice Easter weekend. Joshua and the kid's had Good Friday off work and school. We wanted to go to the zoo but it was too cold outside. We had snow flurries that day. We decided to have a much needed lazy day at home. I went up to the church in the morning to help with the decorations for the ward Easter party. In the evening, we ordered pizza and I made cookies and popcorn and we watched the movie "Everyone's Hero" (BTW, we don't recommend it).

On Saturday, we went to our ward Easter breakfast at the church. After we ate, there was a nice program in the chapel. Joshua and Jessica sang "I Feel My Savior's Love" with Jessica's friend Emma and her father. Then, there was an Easter Egg Hunt for the primary kids. This was the first year since being in this ward that we had an indoor egg hunt because of the weather. They separated the senior and junior primaries so the big kids didn't stampede over the little ones. That afternoon, we went to see the movie "Meet the Robinsons". It was much better than we expected. A really funny, cute movie. The kids already want to buy it when it comes on DVD.

After the movie, we went to Target to pick up my much anticipated deck furniture and gazebo! Yippee! It was the last day for the sale prices so we had to buy it right away even though we weren't sure where we'd store it. It's too early and too cold to put it on the deck yet so we decided to keep it in the garage. But we saved over $200 buying it on sale. So, now we have some really great deck furniture, a fire pit and a gazebo. (Click on the item for the link to see what it looks like.) I'm so happy we're finally replacing our gazebo. We loved the one we had a few summers ago. This time, we'll nail it down to the deck right away so if any high winds pass through hopefully, it'll be safe. I know we'll be in our backyard lots more this summer having barbeques, having friends over and just enjoying the outdoors with our new deck furniture! In the evening, we can build a fire in the fire pit and roast marshmallows and/or hot dogs. Michigan summer evenings can sometimes be chilly so we think the fire pit will be a fun addition to our backyard.

Saturday evening, we ate dinner at Arby's and went home to color Easter eggs. Spencer got pretty creative with his eggs. He experimented with all sorts of colors and came up with some pretty creative eggs. We colored 16 eggs but the kids thought we needed more. Next year, I'll probably have 2 dozen for them to color.

On Easter Sunday, since Joshua and I are both in the choir, we had to be to church early (8:00 am) to practice for the Sacrament Meeting Easter program. I sang but Joshua is the choir director -- Added to his 3 other callings! Josh did a great job and it turned out to be a really nice program. After church, we delivered Easter goodies to my visiting teaching sisters and then came home for our Easter egg hunt. The kids changed out of their Sunday clothes really fast and raced around the house looking for the candy that the Easter Bunny hid the night before. In their Easter baskets this year, Spencer and Jessica got MP3 players. Alex got a Mario Party 4 video game and Logan got a remote control Buzz Lightyear car. That evening, we had some friends over for Easter dinner. We had a brown sugar glazed ham with a potato casserole, green beans, corn, jello salad, tossed salad and rolls. For dessert we had a strawberry pie and chocolate chip cheesecake. Yummy!

Joshua had today off work too. Spencer and Jessica played at a friend's house, Alex and Logan went to the library with Josh and I went to see a matinee movie with a friend -- "Blades of Glory" with Will Ferrell and John Heder. A pretty silly movie. I don't recommend it -- well, maybe its a worth a rental fee.

I hope you had a nice Easter weekend too!
Love, Julie
